This is who I am
My name is Megan Craven. I just turned 18. I am a senior at Laingsburg high school and I go to Potter Park Zoo every morning for a zoology class. I am a crazy animal lover who plays the saxophone. I have been first chair for the last two years and section leader for one year. I have grown with my instrument because I started playing the alto in fifth grade.
I use to play soccer and I was a starter as a freshman. I quit soccer because sophomore year i tore my ACL, MCL, and meiscus. This injury resulted in a major surgery and my knee has yet to recovery from it.
I have a twin sister. I am left handed. I'm the kind of girl who loves to color and blow bubbles and squeal whenever I see an animal. I absolutely love reading. The way a book can transport you into someone else and a different world will always amaze me. I love science and English which probably explains why I am so much better at those subjects and not good at math or history.
What most people don't know about me is that i was homeschooled for all go middle school. It was definitely a challenge that i had to overcome to transition into public school.
I have a whole list of things i want to do after I graduate. Some of these things include; going to paris, learning how to play the violin, going to Africa to study wild animals, learn sign language [etc.] These aspirations keep me going. I think everyone need to have dreams to be able to wake up every morning and work towards something.
I think another important question you need to ask yourself is who you want to be. And hang out with the people who bring out the best in you. I want to be the person that anyone can come to for advice.

CHANGE
I should have done a lot of things differently but a few things that I definitely wish I could change is that I wish I didn't care what people thought of me. It only matters what I think of myself. I wish I didn't care so much about drama and if I would ever have a boyfriend. Freshmen year one of my friends told me a great word of advice that I would like to pass on. "You are trying to figure yourself out right now so don't spend your time trying to figure someone else out. You won't become the person you are meant to be". Lastly I wish I didn't stress as much as I did. I stress over everything, every essay, every test, it doesn't help in the long run it just hurt my body and my mental state. |
Philippians 4:13
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. |
My Pride
I take pride in all of the things I do. I take pride in my ability to play the saxophone and play it good enough to be first chair and section leader. I take pride in the fact that because of my ability to play the saxophone I can teach others to love and respect the beautiful woodwind instrument. I take pride in my religious background because it has made me the young lady I am. I take pride in my ability to love and work with animals because it makes me happy and everyone needs to be happy. Also, I take pride in my grades. I have worked so hard to try to get good grades that please my parents but I realized that good grades actually make me happy. I take pride in my ability to overcome obstacles. But most importantly I take pride in the person I have become in the past four years. |
My Advice To You
Never change yourself to please someone else. You will only hurt yourself in the long run. I know high school is hard and that friends come and go but they are put in your life for a reason and maybe they are suppose to leave. High school is where you figure out who your TRUE friends are.
Don't stress to much about things that you cannot change. Going through high school, my stress levels have escalated dramatically from what they wee freshmen year. But nothing comes out of stressing and working about things that are going to happen. Maybe you won't sleep that night or maybe you will get an ulcer, but nothing good will happen.
Never ever give up. So many times in my life i have thought about giving up. For example i wanted to quit band freshmen year because I was scared and didn't think I could do what the teacher expected from me. If I had given up then I would have never gotten the big band family that i have to this day of the memories that will stay with me for the rest of my life. So never give up and always give it 100% and then give it 10% more.

This video got me through my high school career. The mountain I had to climb to get through my injury made me need more inspiration then i could tell myself and thats when i started searching ACL inspirational videos and this always motivates me. This has great advice not only for someone who is going through an ACL injury but someone who is going through anything difficult.
