We will be having weekly class discussions (socratic seminars) that will allow us to clarify any confusions about the text, share our thoughts and feelings, and discuss the novel and characters from the literary analysis perspective. Please familiarize yourself with the socratic seminar rules, expectations, and evaluation rubric.

3. Download this Active Reading graphic organizer. You will use it to write down you questions, comments, keep track of the unfamiliar words, etc. as you read your assigned chapters. We will use these graphic organizers in our class discussions.

In a well developed ACES format, respond to the following writing prompt:
Scout and Jem mature considerably through the course of the novel. What developmental changes do they go through, and what causes these changes?
FCA: Response begins with a clear answer and ends with a sum up.
FCA: Response states at least two specific supporting arguments that back up the answer
FCA: Each supporting detail, statement, or observation is explained and elaborated on.
Wednesday, 05/29/13: Finish the writing assignment-see the major assignments section on the left. Final test on the novel is tomorrow.
Thursday, 05/23/13: Finish the writing assignment (choose one form the Major Assignments section in ch. 27-31 tab).
Wednesday, 05/22/13: Finish discussion questions-prepare for class discussion. Active reading journals are due.
Tuesday, 05/21/13: Read chapters 30-31.
Monday, 05/20/13: Read chapters 27-29. Continue to work on your Active Reading Journals.
Friday, 05/17/13: Prepare for class discussion/finish discussion questions for ch. 18-26.
Thursday, 05/16/13: Read ch. 24-26.
Wednesday, 05/15/13: Read ch. 21-23. Be prepared to take a reading check quiz on these chapters.
Tuesday, 05/14/13: Complete discussion questions for ch. 18-20
Monday, 05/13/13: Read chapters 18-20. Prepare for the reading quiz on ch. 12-17.
Thursday, 5/09/13: Read chapters 15-17, complete the discussion questions-be prepared to have a class discussion over chapters 12-17 on Monday.
Wednesday, 5/08/13: Complete Discussion questions for chapters 12-14. I am not looking for right or wrong answers at this point, but for your best effort in contemplating each question and sharing your thoughts about the text.
Tuesday, 5/07/13: Read chapters 12-14 (complete the Active Reading Journal as you read). Prepare for the class discussion of ch. 7-11. Reading check quiz for ch. 10-11.
Monday, 5/06/13: Read chapters 10-11. Be prepared to discuss them in small groups tomorrow.
Friday, 5/03/13: Read chapters 7-9 over the weekend. Compete your active reading journal (download the graphic organizer- resource #3 in the Resources to Download section on the left).
Thursday, 5/02/13: Finish ch. 4-6 discussion questions. You must have the questions completed to participate in our class discussion tomorrow.
Wednesday, 5/01/13: Finish reading ch. 4-6 (remember to keep track of your active reading skills through your journal). Be prepared to take a quiz.
Tuesday, 4/30/13: Review chapters 1-3, read chapters 4, 5, 6 by Thursday. Use your active reading journal to track your reading.
Monday, 4/29/13: Finish reading ch. 1,2, and 3 of the novel (use the active reading journal to keep track of questions, observations, comments, etc. as you read the chapters - download "active_reading_journals.pages document in the Resources to Download section on the left). Be prepared to take a reading check quiz.
