Major Assignments1. Small Groups - Historical Background
Each member of the group is responsible for a part of the informational text that gives some context and insight into American Romanticism. Independently, you will study your assigned topic, take notes, and find the answer to one or more of the essential questions relevant to your topic. The notes must provide some context for the answer: the audience must know not only WHAT the answer is, but also must be able to understand WHY this is the answer. Each group member then will share his/her information with the rest of the small group. The rest of the group will take notes. 2. Romantic Poetry-Analysis Download the following questions for poetry analysis. Read each poem at least twice-the first time to get the general idea and the "feeling" of the poem, the second time (or more) to look for the deeper or secondary meaning, the nuances of the poem. a. H.W. Longfellow, "The Tide Rises, The Tide Falls" p. 177 of the textbook.
b. H.W. Longfellow, "The Cross of Snow" p. 178
c. W. C. Bryant, "Thanatopsis" p. 171-172
