Who i am
I am and always have been, an extremely shy person. In fact, I don't see that aspect of myself changing, at least not drastically. All the same I have learned and grown throughout my high school years. I've gained and lost friends and I have had to learn to move on instead of always holding on. If you constantly hold on to certain things, you cannot grow. It has been rather hard to let go of certain things, like friendship, but it helps teach good lessons in life. Going through middle and high school prepares you for college in many ways, not just intellectually. Lessons I have learned in high school have helped me become more independent and wiser just in life. You cannot always have things go your way; sometimes you need to go with the flow. That is something that has been a hard lesson for me to learn, because I tend to stress out if things do not work out. However, I have needed to learn that lesson quickly because I cannot be in control of everything, sometimes you just have to adjust your plans to fit the world instead of expecting the world to adjust to you.
I believe that certain things in high school specifically have helped me and in ways has made me happy, even if people haven't seen a change in me per se. Band is definitely one of those things. I can let the music consume me and forget about other things for a while. Though it is challenging, band helps me cope with high school. It makes me happy after a hard day at school, and even though I am not the best in the class, I feel more in my element. I feel more in control in some ways. Band has been a kind of saving grace for me. When I have had a bad day, I can go to band and focus on the music and having fun, and I can forget about everything else. I can pretend that nothing else matters when I get involved with my music.
High school has also done what I planned for it too, and that is to prepare me for college. I have learned how to study better and how to take better notes in lectures. Sometimes I have had to figure out my work on my own, which enhanced my ability to problem solve.
My senior year alone has given me a lot of valuable lessons and tips. I have had to go through two major surgeries in the past semester alone. While I have had several surgeries before, this time around was more difficult because I have had a much heavier work load. I have had to keep up with my work and accept the grade I received, versus the one I would like. Again I had to control what I could, and simply accept what I could not. On top of that, I have also had to come to terms with closing a safe and familiar chapter of my life. One that has taken up so much time and space in my head and heart. I've had to accept responsibility for starting a new chapter in my life, and moving away from all that I am comfortable with, and jumping into something new and a little scary. That being said, I feel that even though I will never stop learning, I am much more prepared for college than I sometimes think, and I have so many people to thank for that. I am also a member of NHS, which is a very important organization and it is an honor to be a part of it. For that reason I have included a picture of my induction.
Still, as I have said before, some parts of myself will never change. Aside from my shyness, another aspect that holds true to that is my love of books. Even though I prefer fiction novels to this day, I have loved reading for as long as I can remember. Reading is an excellent way to discover new worlds and forget your troubles for a while. And even in fiction, one can learn quite a few important lessons, about education and life in general. For example, you are never too old to learn or try something new. Also, the biggest obstacle in life is yourself. Both of these lessons stick out to me. I am always learning new things, even regarding things I thought I already new. The second lesson absolutely applies to me. New interactions scare me, but I find I usually enjoy them once I am in them. On top of that, I have had several surgeries in my life regarding my physical disabilities and I have had to gain new strength to overcome them.
The quotes I have chosen here spoke to me because of how much I love books and how I have struggled to overcome at least some of my insecurities. One of those insecurities happened to be writing, and these are the pieces I am most proud of from this year.

Advice for allExpress yourself, don't conform to something that isn't you.
Work hard, your high school years will count toward your future. Have fun, experience as much as you can in high school; notice things. Don't dwell on the past too much, or you can't live in the present. Be yourself, don't worry about what others think. You'll be happier that way, and you touch more lives than you realize. The stories we love best live in us forever.

I take pride in....My academics: I may not be number one in my class, but I take my academics very seriously. I have taken on a heavy workload this year and I have tried to make sure my studies come first no mater what I have gone through.
My friends and family: I am an extremely shy and quiet person, but I love those who are close to me, and I will always be kind and loyal to those who show me the same courtesy. Band: As I have previously stated, band is very important to me. It has helped me a lot throughout the years, including giving me a challenge. It has made me happy. I take pride in being able to create beautiful music and in being a band geek. We touch other people's lives simply by existing.
